How the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations can be linked to the Common Good Balance Sheet of cities, counties and municipalities.

When implementing sustainability strategies, an increasing number of municipalities are guided by the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, there are already a number of cities and municipalities that have become Common Good municipalities.

In the new edition of the publication series “Analyses and Concepts” by the Bertelsmann Stiftung, the main cornerstones of the Common Good Balance Sheet for municipalities are initially outlined. After describing the importance that the SDGs have for municipalities, the existing links between the Common Good Balance Sheet and the SDGs are analyzed. In addition, ways are shown how the Common Good Balance Sheet can be linked even more strongly with the SDGs, and selected instruments, projects and plans are presented.
