Stuttgart was the first German city to have four municipal companies audited according to ECG’s criteria. It also encourages private companies to draw up a Common Good Balance Sheet with the support program “Sustainably fit for tomorrow”. Stuttgart was now awarded the German Sustainability Award 2022 for being Germany’s most sustainable city.

The award is a recognition for the progress made, for example, in the field of energy and climate protection and the empowerment of citizens. As a pilot city, Stuttgart is committed to the “Agenda 2030”, which the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted in 2015. The aim is to work towards a world in which everyone acts in an ecologically sustainable, socially just and economically viable manner.

The German Sustainability Award is a national award for excellence in sustainability in business, municipalities and research. It is being awarded for the 14th time. With eight competitions and over 1,000 applicants, the prize is the largest of its kind in Europe. The award is given by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with the federal government, municipal umbrella organizations, business associations, civil society organizations and research institutions. The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros.
