Months ago activists decided for massive global climate strikes to take place on April 24th. Due to the COVID-19 crisis they had to reconsider their planning. Cancelling the strikes all together was not an option the young people wanted to consider. Instead, they decided to move their strike online. The activists are calling for urgent action and a just recovery from the pandemic that puts people over profits.

As Eric Damien Njuguna from Kenya puts it “Today we come together to #FightEveryCrisis. The choices we make today will shape our futures and those of generations to come. COVID-19 is not a ‘one-off’ event from which we can just return to business as usual. We must recognise and fix our broken systems and #BuildBackBetter.”

The Economy for the Common Good supports the efforts and goals of the youth movement and has participated in strikes since 2019.
