For the first time in two years, the Good Business Conference (#KDGW2023) was celebrated in person, which allowed for a livelier exchange between like-minded individuals and businesses interested in the common good. Over 80 company representatives from Bavaria gathered to honor 52 companies for their sustainable management and their public value accounting during the year 2022, as well as hosting keynote speeches and discussions on relevant topics. Experts from the agriculture and energy industries exchanged answers with entrepreneurs to the question “What U-turns are needed for good business?”.

As main speaker, Tina Teucher, member of the BAUM Executive Board, Think Tank 30 and the German Association for the Club of Rome, called for nothing less than a paradigm shift, away from the financial aspects and towards a more meaningful orientation. According to the latest Club of Rome report (Earth4All), it is about whether we as a global society can still make the “big leap” and bring about a transformation within planetary boundaries, or if this “too little, too late” scenario will persist in the future. This framework shift is only possible through informed and mindful decisions against financial and social inequality and for regenerative, nature-friendly agriculture and a comprehensive energy transition.

All participants arrived to a consensus: they are deliberately turning themselves into agents of change through their companies and activities, but also recognize the obstacles that the current framework and conditions present. A clear call was also made to the entrepreneurs present at the event to become more involved, even outside of their existing networks, in particular for legal reforms in politics – at all levels and preferably in cooperation .
