“From Growth to Wellbeing: Rethinking Development for a Digital, Green, and Just Transformation”

This year, the Divisions “Economic and Social Development, Employment” & “Methods, Digital Transformation, Innovation” of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with the Sector Networks created a joint learning journey: Future Forum 2022. A series of virtual learning and exchange formats covering a range of diverse topics, culminating in a two-day conference from 13th to 14th September 2022 in Potsdam, Germany.

The agenda counted with a total of 41 break-out sessions co-created with colleagues and partners from 54 different countries. Each day focused on a different theme. Day 1 was inspiration and day 2, peer learning.

On September 13th, Economy for the Common Good (ECG) founder Christian Felber, Lebohang Liepollo Pheko from Wellbeing Economy Alliance and Joseluis Samaniego from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL), participated in the hybrid segment “Beyond growth? Alternative models for economic development“. These invited experts on society transformation, alternative economies and approaches to reshaping development cooperation, shared ideas and discussed answers to questions such as:

  • How do we manage to think about and actively advance a sustainable economy, social integrity, and ecological sustainability?
  • How can we use global challenges and megatrends to contribute to the transformation towards more resilient societal structures?
  • The center of the 2nd day was peer learning.

Each speaker gave a solo presentation, then participated in a moderated panel discussion and finally an open discussion with the audience, complete with reflections and shared experiences from the practitioners.
