The city of Eschlikon, with a total of 4,500 inhabitants, is located about 30 minutes by car south of Lake Constance, in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. Since last summer, the innovative and visionary community presidents and city officials have been working on the balancing process, which will be completed this summer. Thanks to the financial support of the Mercator Foundation, the team around the ECG consultant Philippe Mastronardi was able to carry out the balancing process for the city free of charge. A milestone for Switzerland!

All over the world, cities are working for sustainable global development. Yet, few administrations have found a way to systematically assess and improve their own sustainability performance. Any city can become a Common Good City by passing a council resolution in support of ECG or by creating a Common Good Balance Sheet for the administration and departments.
